Mae Kha Canal

Wualai & Chang Khlan · Wualai / Chiang Mai Gate / Chang Khlan

About

Mae Kha is the old canal that runs through the city just east of the moat, and for years it was a neglected, polluted ditch rather than something to visit. A restored stretch of about 750 m, from Rakaeng Bridge to Kad Kom, now has paved walkways, yellow footbridges, planted banks, and small shops and food stalls along the water, and it has become a popular photo walk. It's part of a wider clean-up project covering around 4.5 km. In mid-2026 the water went murky and smelly while the wastewater plant was being upgraded, so check recent reports before making a special trip.

Know before you go
