Fern Forest is one of the Old City's long-running garden cafés, set among tall trees and ferns on Singharat Road, near the north-west corner of the moat. It was serving salad-heavy brunches long before that became the norm, and the menu still mixes classic breakfasts with Thai dishes. The big breakfast, with a cheese-stuffed omelette, bacon, ham and toast, is the hungry option. The coconut cake is the signature, and plenty of people buy a whole one to take away. It stays open into the evening.
