About
The summit of Doi Inthanon, at 2,565 m, is the highest point in Thailand, and you reach it by road, so there's no hike involved. It isn't a sweeping open peak: there's a small stupa holding the ashes of Inthawichayanon, the Chiang Mai prince the mountain is named after, plus an air force weather station. The better bit is the Ang Ka boardwalk right beside it, a short loop through damp, mossy cloud forest that feels nothing like the rest of Chiang Mai. In January the summit averages around 6°C and can drop below freezing, so dress for it.
